Middleton Cricket Club Breaks Barriers: Introducing the Women's Cricket Team

In July 2021, recognising the need to adapt and embrace progress, the Middleton Cricket Club Committee established a ladies' cricket team. By introducing a ladies' cricket team, the committee is doing their bit to pave the way for greater inclusivity and diversity within the club, empowering talented female athletes to showcase their cricketing talents and make their mark in the world of cricketing and also in their local area of Middleton.

With this momentous decision, Middleton Cricket Club is embracing gender equality, fostering a sense of camaraderie, and forging a stronger, more vibrant future for the entire club.

A Storied Past, a Promising Future

Middleton Cricket Club in the 80's

Founded in 1857, Middleton Cricket Club has a rich history that began with a match that had been reported against the employees of a man name ‘Mr. Chadwick’ who was a local silk manufacturer. Middleton achieved a remarkable score of 66, while the other team accomplished a commendable 27. It is important to note that Middleton was primarily an agricultural area during that period, where nearly every person you encountered was either a farmer, a farm labourer, or a hand-loom weaver - so cricket wasn’t exactly a well-known activity at that time.

Despite changing times and occasional setbacks, Middleton Cricket Club remains committed to rebuilding and securing a bright future. The club's enduring legacy and dedication to excellence guarantee continued success in the years to come. They have seen remarkable achievements over their almost 200-year span, including winning the league championship in 1898 and producing notable players such as Hedley Verity, Frank Tyson, and Basil D'Oliveira. In recent years, the club experienced a resurgence, winning multiple trophies in 2011. How many clubs can proudly boast the achievement of three players within their ranks who not only went on to represent their respective counties, but also excelled to the extent of playing for the prestigious England national team?

Middleton Cricket Club stands as an emblem of sporting greatness, embodying an unwavering heritage. As sponsors, we take immense pride in supporting this remarkable, inspirational, and all-encompassing organisation that truly represents the pinnacle of sporting achievement and inclusivity.
